The Challenge: Flushing and Filling a Chilled Water System on Schedule

A data center commissioning project required a complete flush of the chilled water system before final testing and turnover. The customer needed to ensure the system was free of debris, construction residue, scale, and foreign materials that could damage critical mechanical equipment or compromise system performance.

In addition to flushing and filtration, the project team also needed the system filled quickly with the specified fluid so commissioning activities could remain on schedule. Any delay in completing the flush, filtration, and fill process would have created risk to the overall testing sequence and project handoff timeline.

The Solution: Temporary Pumping and Filtration for Flush and Fill

HVAC RNTL provided the proper pump package, filtration equipment, hoses, fittings, and field support required to perform a complete chilled water system flush. The solution was designed to move the required flow volume through the system while capturing unwanted debris and contaminants through temporary filtration.

Once the flushing process was completed and system cleanliness was verified, the same temporary pumping system was used to rapidly fill the chilled water loop with the customer-specified fluid. This eliminated the need for the site team to rely only on permanent building systems that may not have been ready or capable of meeting the required fill schedule.

The temporary system gave the commissioning team control over flow, pressure, filtration, and fill timing — all critical factors in keeping the project moving.
