The Challenge: Validating Mechanical and Electrical Systems Before Full Operation

A data center commissioning project required both liquid and air load simulation to validate critical mechanical and electrical systems before the facility entered full operation. The customer needed to test chilled water performance, air-side cooling delivery, electrical infrastructure response, and system controls under realistic operating conditions.

Because live IT equipment was not yet installed, the commissioning team needed temporary equipment that could simulate the actual operating load across both the water-side and air-side systems.

The Solution: Combined Liquid and Air Load Bank Testing

HVAC RNTL provided a combination of liquid load banks and air load banks to support integrated commissioning activities. The liquid load banks were used to place a controlled thermal load on the chilled water system, allowing the team to test chiller performance, pumping systems, flow rates, and temperature control.

The air load banks were used to simulate heat load within the data hall environment, allowing the customer to test air distribution, cooling response, containment strategy, controls, and overall room performance.

By combining both solutions, HVAC RNTL helped the commissioning team create a realistic operating environment before live servers were installed. This allowed multiple systems to be tested together rather than in isolation, giving the customer a more complete view of system readiness.
